Chapter Five takes us back in time – two months prior – to an event that happened on a weekend away which became Rachel’s deep, dark secret. It was a difficult scene to write and even more difficult to read!
Scenes that involve physical intimacy are challenging to write because you want them to be authentic without becoming too corny and saccharine. And then you have to find a balance between realism and NOT wanting to sound like something in an X-rated magazine. But you also want the reader to feel the heat of the moment and understand WHY Rachel was able to do what she did. I thought I’d found the right balance ten years ago when I wrote it but having to READ it for this audio book version was another matter altogether… It was quite confronting indeed but I think it’s come together well and I do think my partner in this project (and in life) Alan Fletcher, does a fabulous job as the seductive Damien Wilde!
